ADHD diagnosis by a psychiatrist and psychotherapist

ADHD diagnosis is a structured and comprehensive process used for both children and adults. In my practice, ADHD diagnosis is conducted according to current medical and psychotherapeutic standards. A sound ADHD diagnosis is always based on several components and not on a single ADHD test.

The focus is on a comprehensive diagnostic interview in which current symptoms, past development, and daily life in various areas are discussed. For children and adolescents, parents or other caregivers are usually also involved in the diagnostic process. It is important that the ADHD symptoms persist over a longer period and occur in more than one area of life.

For further clarification, standardized questionnaires, attention and concentration tests, and psychological assessments are frequently used. An important part of ADHD diagnosis is also the exclusion of other causes or co-occurring conditions that can produce similar symptoms.

A thorough ADHD diagnosis forms the basis for individually tailored treatment, advice or support and helps those affected and their families to better understand the symptoms and find suitable solutions.
